Seattle, WA – September 13, 2011 – Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic), Remote Diagnostic Technologies Limited (RDT), and MedAire, Inc. today demonstrated a series of dramatic improvements to in-flight telemedicine services, including superior link reliability, improved definition video and voice codec capabilities for enhanced and extended patient observation and monitoring, by combining RDT’s Tempus IC medical monitor and MedAire’s MedLink remote medical assistance services with Panasonic’s eXConnect global broadband Ku service. Panasonic will be showing a live demonstration of this telemedicine solution during the 2011 APEX Expo, September 13-15, in its booth, number 301.
“Our demonstration with RDT and MedAire is just one of the many operational benefits that are possible with a broadband connected aircraft,” said Paul Margis, Chief Executive Officer for Panasonic Avionics Corporation. “We are very excited to be working with RDT and MedAire on a high bandwidth, cost-effective connectivity solution that supports the critical two-way voice and data communication and high definition video capabilities that will help enhance health and safety as a key part of the passenger travel experience.”
Says RDT’s CEO Graham Murphy, “We are excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate with Panasonic the capabilities of Tempus technology. Tempus IC is the most compact vital signs monitor available with the added in-built capability to transmit clinical data, voice, pictures and real-time video. In a medical emergency Tempus IC enables MedAire’s MedLink doctors to remotely access near-instant clinical data that helps them to differentiate the serious from the non-serious and allows the patient to receive initial treatment just minutes into a medical incident. This eliminates guesswork, reduces room for error, operates discretely and helps everyone keep control, relieving stress in a difficult situation.”
“It’s an exciting time in telemedicine,” says Grant Jeffery, MedAire CEO. “The goal of all medical providers is to provide timely, quality assistance to those in need. Advances in communications provide a platform to offer that assistance in ways never before possible.”
Continues Jeffery, “By leveraging Panasonic’s eXConnect service and MedAire, airline passengers and crew can quickly and easily access the best possible medical assistance throughout the aircraft, whether at the gate or at 35,000 feet.”
