Tempe, AZ – OCTOBER 10, 2011 – MedAire Founder and Chairperson, Joan Sullivan Garrett, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). As Vice Chair of the Associate Member Advisory Council, Ms. Garrett is one of two Associate Members to sit on the NBAA Board.
The NBAA Board of Directors is responsible for managing the affairs of the Association and work together on behalf of NBAA Members to promote business aviation access, operational excellence, professional development, safety and technical standards, and security.
“Joan brings to her position on NBAA’s Board of Directors a thorough understanding of all aspects of business aviation, and a solid grasp of the challenges and opportunities confronting the industry,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are delighted that she has been selected to represent NBAA’s Associate Members on the Board, and we know the Board will benefit from her insights and contributions.”
Ms. Garrett founded MedAire on the premise of providing on-demand medical advice for in-flight medical emergencies (also known at telemedicine). The company’s founding in 1985 coincided with the airline industry’s first efforts to comply with newly enacted legislation governing flight access for passengers with disabilities.
Since its founding, MedAire has expanded its offerings to include in-flight and on the ground medical training, medical kits, and travel safety solutions for the aviation and maritime markets.
Ms. Garrett was awarded Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2001. She consults with the US Federal Aviation Administration, has provided congressional testimony, and was awarded the Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award for innovative contributions to corporate aviation safety.
