GENEVA – 17 May, 2011 – More global training locations, more expert medical instructors and more flexible curriculum options are what business aviation pilots and flight attendants can expect from MedAire (EBACE Booth #627), the world’s leading provider of integrated crew medical training, onboard medical equipment and 24/7 access to medical and security information and advice.
“MedAire’s training is the only aviation course where crew can actually take their skills home and put them to good use,” says Grant Jeffery, MedAire CEO. “We’ve received hundreds of letters over the past 25 years from students who have intervened with medical issues for family members, colleagues and neighbours—even strangers in restaurants or on the street. Most recently, we heard from a flight attendant who, while at a shopping mall, saved two victims of cardiac arrest in the same day.”
MedAire, an International SOS company, is expanding its global medical training capabilities in the following ways:
- More qualified medical instructors are certified to teach MedAire’s signature course—Management of In-flight Illness & Injury—including 55 medical flight paramedics, flight nurses or critical care nurses living in 30 countries.
- More on-site courses are available for pilots, flight attendants, schedulers, dispatchers, maintenance professionals—even business executives—to conduct first responder drills using the AED and MedAire medical kits on the aircraft. On-site training allows flight departments to train in large numbers, saving valuable travel time and expenses for crew.
- More fixed-based training classes are available in popular European aviation hubs such as Farnborough, Geneva, Lisbon, Moscow and Zurich.
- More curriculum enhancements, including important changes from European Resuscitation Council 2010 guidelines and updated ‘current events’ modules such as cosmic radiation due to the recent Japan earthquake. The 2011 course includes more case study scenarios that utilise MedAire’s medical kits and in-flight medical cases managed at MedAire’s 24/7 MedLink Global Response Center.
- More flexible online training to supplement classroom training, saving crewmembers valuable time and often money. Online options include a one day initial classroom course with e-Learning and a half day recurrent classroom course with e-Learning.
- More medical training resources, including a third edition MedAire’s Manual of In-flight Medical Care and e-Book, which will allow crew members access to first responder information on the aircraft’s media devices such as iPads and laptops.
- More satisfied students per MedAire’s course completion surveys. In 2010, when aviation students were asked about their satisfaction with both MedAire’s course content and its medical instructors, 98.8 percent of students ranked “highly satisfied.”
“MedAire is continuously focused on ensuring our courses are the right length and delivered in the right place at the right time,” says Richard Gomez, MedAire Vice President of Education Services & Quality.
