Management of In-flight Illness and Injury MedAire developed a completely revamped offering of its Management of In-flight Illness and Injury coursework in 2010. It includes initial, recurrent, e-Learning and Tempus IC classes using hands-on, skills-based education.
Above and beyond learning how to manage medical events that routinely present themselves in an aviation setting, MedAire developed its new coursework using the most effective learning techniques available.
By focusing on the way information is presented—with active student participation, hands-on exercises, instructor evaluation and a suite of audio and visual strategies—the style of each learner is taken into consideration. This means individual success at comprehension and memory well after the class is over.
Courses:
- 2-day initial
- 1-day initial course + e-Learning
- 1-day recurrent
- 1/2-day recurrent + e-Learning

Management of In-flight Illness and Injury+ Tempus IC
Integrated Recurrent Crew Medical Training and Tempus IC Training
Clients who have Remote Diagnostic Technologies, Ltd.’s (RDT) Tempus IC remote vital sign unit will want to take this integrated course. MedAire now offers its annual recurrent Management of In-flight Illness and Injury course, integrated with Tempus IC training—it’s called the Management of In-flight Illness and Injury+ Tempus IC.
Who: Clients with RDT’s Tempus IC who have initial training on the unit. (This is a recurrent Tempus IC and recurrent Management of In-flight Illness and Injury training session.)
When/Where: Please contact your MedAire account manager directly to schedule an MIII+ Tempus IC course.
Why: Crew should train annually on basic medical procedures and on the Tempus IC unit, so they can respond with confidence during a medical crisis.
The MIII+ Tempus IC course offers an additional two hours of training from a medical professional strictly on the Tempus IC unit.

Hangar Safety Training
This two-day "awareness training" course is designed for aviation maintenance professionals who have daily exposure to work hazards in the hangar setting and are looking to be proactive in workplace safety. This course prepares students to recognize, prevent and respond to sudden medical emergency situations commonly found in confined environments. Content includes basic lifesaving skills (CPR) including use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), managing medical and traumatic emergencies, and an overview of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory requirements.
Upon completion, students will gain an understanding of how to recognize, prevent and respond to sudden emergency situations. They will also become qualified in CPR and AED use, as well as receive a 10-hour OSHA General Industry course completion card and an American Heart Association HeartSaver AED completion card.
Crew Medical Training
(available at select Flight Safety International locations)
Crew Medical Training addresses medical emergencies, victim assessment, CPR/AED, infectious diseases and universal precautions, splinting and stabilization, oxygen equipment and more. To reduce the amount of time spent in the classroom prior to class, students must complete four web-based training modules on AED/CPR, blood-borne pathogens, altitude physiology and tools for resource management. Initial training is 1.5 days with annual refresher courses lasting a half day.
