TEMPE,
Ariz.
(September 28, 2004) Health and security assistance
provider MedAire, Inc. has reached an agreement with
United Arab Emirates-based Etihad Airways that will give
the airline 24-hour inflight access to MedAire’s
hospital-based physicians.
Under the
three-year deal, MedAire will provide Etihad’s fleet of
aircraft with 24-hour access to emergency physicians and
communication specialists working at its
MedLink Global
Response Center. The
hospital-based center, which can be contacted from
anywhere around the world using the aircraft’s existing
communications system, also provides guidance on medically
appropriate diversion sites along with logistics
coordination.
“An
inflight medical emergency can be quite scary and creates
many challenges for crewmembers,” said Aaron Hawkins, managing director of MedAire’s European offices.
“This agreement allows Etihad to provide its
passengers and crew with an additional level of expertise
and confidence as they work to manage the situation.
It’s a proactive decision that speaks strongly to
their commitment to the highest level of customer
service.”
MedAire
physicians, who have extensive experience in the field of
aviation-specific medicine, managed more than 17,000
medical emergencies in 2003.
With the addition of Etihad Airways, MedAire now
serves 75 airline clients worldwide.
Etihad
Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates
and is based out of
Abu Dhabi.
