Robb Leigh, M.D. named Chief Medical Officer, Paulo Alves, M.D. named VP, Aviation & Maritime Health

TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 4, 2009 – As MedAire (MedAire.com) begins the New Year, the company has made an even greater commitment to enhancing the medical services offered to clients, with the addition of new staff and a reorganization designed to complement the medical team’s unique specialties:

  • Robb Leigh, M.D., Chief Medical Officer– Global Response Services – With extensive experience as an Arizona-based emergency-room physician and practicing doctor in MedAire’s 24/7 Global Response Center, the newly appointed Leigh is uniquely qualified to work closely with aviation and maritime clients, providing consistent and continuous case management oversight. Board-certified in emergency medicine and travel medicine, he will provide medical direction, leadership and support for Global Response Center operations, as well as consultation on medical kit revisions and training.

  • Paulo Alves, M.D., MedAire vice president, Aviation and Maritime Health – Formerly MedAire’s corporate medical director, Alves will combine his 25+ years in the medical and aviation fields with his intimate knowledge of MedAire’s management of remote medical incidents to drive industry awareness and new travel medicine initiatives. He will also improve MedAire’s medical assistance service standards, continue to serve as an expert internal advisor on aviation and maritime health matters and work with regulatory bodies to share industry knowledge gleaned from MedAire’s case management statistics.
  • David Streitwieser, M.D., FACEP, MedLink Medical Director – Medical co-director of the Emergency department at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and Medical Director of MedAire’s 24/7 MedLink Global Response Center located within Banner, Streitwieser oversees MedLink case management and also provides expert advice regarding new processes and products. He has served as the medical director of MedLink since the Center’s inception in 1987.

MedAire’s medical team is augmented by a staff of more than 10 registered nurses and 60 physicians who provide the global MedLink service that offers clients 24/7access to medical professionals and advice. MedAire, through its parent company, International SOS, provides clients with access to an additional 800 doctors, 28 medical clinics and 26 global alarm centers in more than 30 countries.
